Countdown to Chitown 5: Navy Pier Park

Navy Pier was built in 1916 at a cost of 4.5 million and was built to serve as not only a cargo facility for lake freighters but also as docking space for passenger steamers. At it's outermost tip, parts of the pier were designed to serve as cool places for public gathering and entertainment before air conditioning existed. Throughout the years, it has served as a commercial pier, a Navy training center, college classroom, and now is Chicago's number one tourist attraction.

Countdown to Chitown 4: Hancock Center

This tower is officially known the either the Hancock Center or Hancock Place but to many Chicagoans it is simply The Hancock. It is currently the fourth-tallest building in Chicago and the seventh-tallest in the U.S. It is one of the most famous buildings of the structural expressionist style with it's distinctive X-braced exterior showing the "tubular system" that architects used to achieve record heights.

Countdown to Chitwon 3: Art Institute of Chicago

Did you know the famed and venerable Art Institute of Chicago actually started as a FREE art school? That was before the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed the main building and the Academy was thrown into debt. Many attempts to save the institution failed but it finally became a new organization named the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. This 8 x 10 print, along with all my other Chicago landmark prints, will be for sale in booth 229 at the upcoming Chicago Renegade Craft Fair Sept. 6 & 7.

Countdown to Chitown 2: Wrigley Field print

Wrigley Field is one of the most famous and iconic baseball stadiums in the U.S. It was built in 1914 as Weeghman Park for the Chicago Federal League baseball team, the Chicago Whales. The Cubs played their first game there on April 20, 1916 and by the year 1921, chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. acquired control of the Cubs. It is known for it's ivy covered brick outfield wall and the iconic marquee over the main entrance as well as the hand-turned scoreboard.
